Position:         Field Engineer
Department:   Integrated Systems Group

Summary:

The Field Engineer will work closely with Project Engineers and Design Engineers to learn and advance skills and knowledge in the audiovisual engineering and design discipline while providing engineering, technical and post-installation support.  Confidence, professionalism, accuracy, attention to detail, punctuality and good communication skills are attributes required for success. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Promote a balanced commitment to customer satisfaction and performing work within budget and strive for excellence in all aspects of work at Avidex.
  • Provide field support and expertise to the installation staff on jobs utilizing a combined skill set of engineering, equipment configuration, basic programming, troubleshooting, documentation, etc.
  • Assure each system’s physical completeness is in accordance with installation drawings and specifications.
  • Identify and inform Responsible Person (RP) about change order opportunities as they arise.
  • During the job commissioning phase maintain an on-going dialog with RP, ensuring that the systems quality and performance meets job requirements.
  • Provide systems testing, commissioning and prepare punch lists.
  • Provide service calls for the Support Department as necessary.
  • Ensure accurate document mark-ups are produced and turned into the RP in a timely manner.
  • When requested, gather all manuals from equipment boxes, unused installation equipment and materials and pass them onto the RP at the close of each job.
  • Assist RP and Lead Installer to ensure all field related loose ends are tied up and cleaned up.
  • On consultant based projects conduct bid reviews, take-offs and submittal preparation.   On projects requiring specific test procedures and submittals, perform required testing and checkout procedures, and assemble results per the specifications.
  • Assist with project closeout and take appropriate steps and measures to assure Final Acceptance by customer.
  • Attend department safety and co-ordination meetings as required.
  • Maintain proper safety practices in shop and on job site.
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities assigned by management.
  • Work sites vary from finished executive boardrooms to new construction sites. Majority of work is indoors, but site conditions vary drastically. Appropriate dress is required.
  • Projects vary in length and locations. Occasionally, jobs may be outside of the local area requiring overnight travel and stays that could range from one night to several nights away.
  • Work hours will vary according to individual projects. Some jobs may require weekend commitments.
  • The working environment contains various power tools, electricity, heights, construction hazards, etc. Therefore, all employees are required to take the necessary actions and precautions to ensure that practical safety techniques and measures are employed.

Position Requirements:

  • 4+ years experience within the audiovisual trade.
  • Bachelors degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Must have experience using hand tools and test equipment of the audiovisual trade. 
  • Must have experience using construction equipment inclusive of, but not limited to scaffolding and lifts, etc.
  • Must have proficiency using AutoCAD for basic use.
  • Must have proficiency reading and understanding architectural drawings.
  • Must have proficiency loading and retrieving Crestron and AMX code.
  • Must have basic understanding of troubleshooting and programming Crestron and AMX code.
  • Must have good computer skills including proficiency using Windows and MS Office.
  • Must have proficiency programming Extron and SP Control systems.
  • Must have proficiency setting up audio and video conferencing systems.
  • Must have proficiency configuring a wired or wireless TCP/IP network.
  • Must have proficiency using telnet.
  • Must have proficiency setting audio gain stages and adjusting common audio equipment.
  • Must have proficiency adjusting video display systems.
  • Must have a great deal of mobility in walking, driving, lifting and carrying.
  • Must be able to stand, kneel and crouch for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to see, hear and have good eye/hand/foot coordination.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding and work in high places.
  • Must be able to work in hot humid places as well as cold places.
  • Must be able to drive a vehicle long and short distances.
  • ICIA Online Design course within one year of taking this position.
  • Basic training on cabling and plenum codes within two months of taking this position.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
